Primary

So, I have a new calling. I was released from Young Women and am a primary teacher. I have the 8-11 year-old girls, and it is a ton of fun! They are so brutally honest, there is never a dull moment. I just thought I'd post some of my enlightening conversations with them. haha. I just hope they end up learning something this year!

I was trying to explain how Jesus came from an earthly mother, but God was His father. It was hard to get across, so I tried using Hercules as an example, because he had a regular mom, and Zeuss was his dad....maybe a bad idea. They seemed to get it at first, and I was excited to move on with the lesson, feeling proud that I taught them something. Apparently one of my girls knew a lot about mythology (I was just going off of the animated movie I had seen), and they started saying things like, "well, Hercules just had magical powers because he was poisoned..." and "didn't he get gifts like that magical horse and stuff?" I tried to focus on the main point of the comparison, but my excitement diminished as I was unsuccessful. I had to tell them to just forget about Hercules and move on, but apparently I hit a hot topic. I can just hope maybe subconsciously something worthwhile got in.

Last week, we discussed how Satan tempted Jesus. We were talking about how Jesus had fasted for forty days and nights and then Satan told Him to turn the rock into bread to eat it.
Me: So imagine if you hadn't eaten for a month and ten days...you'd be starving right?
Girls: yeeessss!!!
Me: So what if Satan came and said, just turn that rock into bread, so you can eat it?
One of the girls: I'd just be eating the rocks!

Nice.

Mouses and Rogue

So, who knew doctoral classes could increase your rate of blogging (this is how boring our class is - jeje). But, what really made me smile today was Rogue - she makes me smile EVERY day. But, today specifically I opened my computer bag to find a headless 'mouses' (her toy mouse) in my bag. It was hilarious because a week or two ago Rogue put one of her 'mouses' into Audrei's suitcase as she prepared for a trip to Denver, Audrei laughed and took it out, only to find it had been put back into her bag by the time she arrived in Denver. Rogue also has a new friend OB-1, the beta fish (Star Wars reference, yes I know it's spelled incorrectly for fun). We're still finding Christmas ornaments  (her idea of keeping the Christmas spirit all year long was to hide ornaments for us) all over the house and as of last night her new favorite toy is Audrei's glittery/musical snow globe which keeps her completely entranced for at least two entire minutes (a record for her attention span).  She will then carry around Audrei's graduation tassels in her mouth or her other favorite ball which she will bring onto my bed if I oversleep or bring to Austin so he'll throw it, if he's paying attention to me instead of her. :) The attached picture was when she climbed into a FedEx box......one of her many escape plans.

A challenge for February!!! :)

OK, so Austin and I had a fun(ny) date a couple of weeks ago. We had plans to go to dinner but Austin's car ended up with a flat tire so we had a change in plans. We took the wheels to Wal-Mart and with the two hour wait we perused the store and purchased a board game called Chutes and Ladders (a childhood favorite) which we took back to the Tire & Battery area where they were showing Toy Story 2 (a favorite of ours because it was one of our first dates this summer) where we played the game and examined our Transformer Valentines (that we later planted in certain people's homes). After a tie-breaker game of Chutes and Ladders we returned to put the two new tires on the car (yes, I helped) and star gaze (at the same time :)). We then made it to Your Mom's Burgers - a uniquely Austin spot complete with stuffed burgers and sweet potato fries - which we found accidentally after driving around the scary part of town for a while. To top it off we went home and I taught Austin about Four Layer Delight. Super Fun!

The date gave me an idea.....since February is the month of 'love' I thought I would challenge each couple to a competition - let's see who can come up with (and participate in) the most CREATIVE DATE. There will be a prize!! (to help with future dates)....ready, set, get creative!

White Coat Ceremony

Sterling had his white coat ceremony yesterday. It was very well done, and both of our parents were able to come up and celebrate with us, which was nice. He has done so well, and I am so proud of him!

Waiting in line...

So handsome!
